It's just how how they are, especially when facing down one another. Because they know the other can take it. It's a bit of a double-edged sword, but it's how they grow, by pushing their limits past breaking.

It's going to be difficult to curb the kneejerk desire to use his quirk, but Katsuki can hold back this time. Once she gets her own quirk back though...man. All bets are off.
